History of The NBA

Why Was The NBA Created And Was Basketball Popular Before The NBA?

  • Before NBL there was BBA
  • There was higher salaries in the BBA rather than the NBL. Resulting in less fans and players in the NBL.
  • So the NBL was under pressure to seek a solution to create a bigger fan base
  • The NBL owner would get a solution in the form of a merger with the BBA in 1949.
  • The NBA was still facing problems by 1980 when they started losing fan base and was looked at as a money losing league. With that also came low-attendance and declining television rates. But in 1984 the NBA saw a chance to turn back into a successful league. With the introduction of commissioner David Stern the NBA bounced backbit transforming the league into a International entertainment company. Some of the things he did were Aggressive Marketing Star Players including Magic Johnson and Larry Bird and especially Michael Jordan.
  • Other things He did were putting limits on player salaries, broadcasting rights for networks and cable television and expanding all star festivals.

BasketBall was not popular before the merger of the NBA and it was created to help BasketBall grow as a sport, increase its fan base and increase business Profit.
